Nanni Balestrini is a poet, novelist, visual artist, and an experimenter in the relationships between words, texts, and images.
In the 1960s, he participated in the most radical movements in the field of literary avant-gardes. Within the group of poets known as “NOVISSIMI” and the “GROUP 63,” which includes authors like Renato Barilli, Achille Bonito Oliva, and Umberto Eco, he embodies a quest for cultural renewal in Italy.
Moreover, the author played a crucial role in the creation of cultural magazines such as: “IL VERRI,” “QUINDICI,” “ALFABETA,” “ZOOOOM,” and “AZIMUTH.”
Balestrini has always sought the relationship between creativity, randomness, languages of information, mass media, and technology. Reflecting on the idea that linguistic experimentation can become a tool for critical understanding of reality, he selects materials taken from various sources, such as newspaper articles or advertising pages, and combines them to generate new meanings.
